Synopsis
Whilst riots burst out everywhere in the country and the dictatorship of the Buldozer General is being dismantled, the circus of the city is on the point of giving its routine performance. Only this time the clowns decide to change the program so as to give themselves over to virulent and comic parody of the tyrannical regime.
The vibrating rhythm of the text and the visual force of the staging make Les Augustes a "total spectacular " where the clowns, after long reflection about life and the world, arrive at one and the same conclusion:
General or clown, it’s more or less the same!
The author
Bernard Liègme was born on 30 October 1927 in Locle, Switzerland. From his childhood he devoted himself to the theatre, forming a small troop that staged his plays when he was only eleven years old. As of his adolescence, he put all his efforts into the theatre trade: as actor, director, manager and author.
With Charles Joris he created the French Popular Theatre for which he composed plays with success. Besides a rich theatrical and romantic output, Bernard Liègme also devoted himself to writing scripts for radio and television. He was rewarded in 1970 with the Prize from the Society of Authors and Composers and in 2000 received the Canton of Neuchâtel Prize.
